Frequently Asked Questions

We chose Finnsheep intentionally. They're a smaller heritage breed that produces naturally lean, tender lamb without the heavy amount of fat you may associate with some commercial lamb.
We wanted lamb that was approachable to cook and eat—smaller chops, manageable roasts, lean racks, and portions that make sense for an everyday dinner.
They're also wonderful sheep to raise: hardy and active.

We picked an invoice system that’s easier for the customer.
The price you see online is the price you pay. No weighing at pickup, no surprise balance, and no second invoice.
It keeps things simple for us and gives everyone straightforward, fair pricing.
Sometimes your package will be a little heavier. Sometimes it will be a little lighter. Across our products, it averages out.

We’re proud to keep our lamb local and feed our fellow Coloradans. At this time, we do not ship. All orders are available for pickup in Erie, Colorado.
Pickup details and instructions will be provided with your order.
Your lamb will be frozen and ready to head home with you. If you have a longer drive, we recommend bringing a cooler or insulated bag to keep everything nice and cold.
Thank you for buying local and supporting a small Colorado farm. It truly means a lot to us.

Yes. Our lamb is grass-fed and raised on pasture and forage, with hay provided as needed. We don't grain-finish our lambs.
Keeping their diet simple is part of how we've chosen to raise our flock and produce the lean, naturally flavorful lamb we want on our own table.

That's one of the things we like most about Finnsheep.
Finnsheep are naturally smaller than many commercial meat breeds, so their cuts are smaller too. Instead of a huge roast or oversized rack, you'll find portions that work well for one person, a couple, or a small family.
A typical leg from our farm, for example, is around 2 pounds and serves about four. Our chops and ribs are similarly manageable and quick to cook.
-
Yes. Our lamb is professionally processed and packaged at a USDA-inspected facility in Colorado.
That gives us confidence that the care we put into raising our animals continues through processing and packaging. It also means our lamb is handled under federal inspection requirements for commercial meat processing.
For us, it's worth doing it right from pasture to package.

Right here in Erie, Colorado.
Our lambs are raised on our small farm on 3 acres and professionally processed in Fort Collins Colorado. Keeping things close to home matters to us.
-
Our focus is on smaller, approachable packages so you don't need an enormous freezer or a commitment to 30 pounds of lamb.
If you're interested in purchasing a larger quantity, reach out to us. Depending on seasonal availability, we may be able to accommodate it.
-
Because you'll know where your dinner came from.
We know the sheep. We know what they eat. We know how they're raised. And we've chosen a USDA-inspected Colorado processor because we want to feel just as confident about the finished package as we do about the animal standing in our pasture.
We're not trying to produce the most lamb. We're trying to raise lamb we're proud to eat ourselves…. and happy to share with you.
